The rowing community came together at WBRC on International Women's Day, 8 March 2021 to celebrate the first women's crew at the then Wendouree Rowing Club. All four of the women and their cox and coach attended the event along with family, friends, club members and members of Parliament (Hon Catherine King MP and Juliana Addison MP) and local council (Cr Daniel Maloney).
The names of the women are inscribed on the bow of the '1960 Women's Crew', a coxless quad/four that was purchased for the current female members of the club through grants funds from Ballarat Council.
Congratulations to the 1960 crew: Coral Hickey, Joanna Watson, Penny Watson and Mary Wettenhall, coxed by Bruce Wilding and coached by Eric Waller. Thank you to everyone who attended and sent their best wishes for the day. It was an historic day for the club, and a great way to showcase the respect and equality we value at Wendouree Ballarat Rowing Club.
